Cannes is certainly the a strong sample of thoughtful cinema from around the world. That is not to say that the feedback at Cannes can not be flatout wrong.

At Cannes in 2005 I saw Gus Van Sant's Last Days. Many people walked out at the 30 minute mark, some walked out at the 50 minute mark. And, many who stuck it out could not help but boo and hiss as the credits rolled. At the time, and even more so now, I think that movie is a masterpiece.
